About Sakarya

The city of Sakarya is in a region at the intersection of the Marmara and Black Seas, and most of the population makes a living from agriculture and animal husbandry. Sakarya, which is the meeting point of different cultures, was greatly damaged by the 1999 earthquake and has just begun to revive in the industrial field.

The population working in the service sector consists mostly of Black Sea people. Many well-known brands have factories in this city and employment is provided to people. It is also a province that has power plants that contribute to electrical energy.

Sights worth seeing are exhibited in the Sakarya museum, where works from prehistoric periods and Roman and Byzantine culture are exhibited. The famous Islama meatballs are among the most popular local products.

Circassian chicken is also among the most popular delicacies. Sea tourism has developed in Karasu and Kocaali districts and areas with summer houses have been built. Many recreation areas and picnic areas near Lake Sapanca are among its notable features.
