About Kırklareli
Kırklareli, which draws our border with Bulgaria, is among our provinces that are very rich in terms of historical accumulation. There are mountainous areas in the North East of Kırklareli and plateaus in the South West.
In this city, which earns its living from agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing, there are sunflower cultivation, sugar beet production and sugar factories on lands suitable for cultivation. Turkey's first sugar factory is the Alpullu factory established here.
Kırklareli, which was plundered by the Bulgarians many times throughout history, was named Saranta Ekklesiai, meaning 40 churches. This is also the center of the Kırkkilise sanjak, which is affiliated with the province of Edirne.
It is one of the most important open-air museums of Kırklareli archeology and art history with its Vize Roman Theater, Ottoman period works, tumuli, mounds and dolmens. This city, which was divided into the borders of Bulgaria, Russia and Turkey, was included in the borders of Turkey again after the War of Independence.
Bulgarian, Greek and Bosnian immigrants live in the city, and due to immigration, its population does not even reach 100 thousand. It is a center that can be visited even on a daily basis, with the cheapest economical bus ticket campaigns.
