Lumera Presents: Ross Daly Trio feat. Kelly Thoma & Şakir Ozan Uygan
Between traditions, between spirits, between the audible and the invisible.
Ross Daly, a pioneer of modal music, a world-renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist, will be performing alongside Kelly Thoma and Şakir Ozan Uygan at the Maritime Museum, creating a unique musical experience.
A Modal Journey That Transcends Boundaries
Ross Daly, of Irish descent, who has made Crete his artistic center for over forty years, is considered one of the most important representatives of contemporary modal music through his profound studies of musical traditions from the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.
Daly, who has released more than 38 albums, has performed on some of the world's most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, Theatre de la Ville (Paris), Herodion (Athens), and the Cairo Opera House.
He has also pioneered strong cross-cultural collaborations by bringing international musicians together through the Labyrinth Musical Workshop he founded in Crete.
This concert will feature original compositions by Ross Daly.
Both ancient and new,
Both profoundly intellectual and dynamic…
Kelly Thoma – The Magical Sound of the Cretan Lyra
Kelly Thoma, a close collaborator of Ross Daly since 1995, adds depth to the trio with her unique and powerful interpretation of the Cretan lyre.
Having performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and WOMADelaide, Thoma has collaborated with notable artists including Trio Chemirani, Ballaké Sissoko, and Zohar Fresco, developing a personal and impactful language of expression.
The delicate melodic textures of the lyre lend both elegance and intense emotional resonance to the music.
Şakir Ozan Uygan – The Rhythmic Memory of Anatolia
Born in Burdur, percussionist Şakir Ozan Uygan began his musical journey with the darbuka and deepened his skills through education at the Anatolian Fine Arts High School and the Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory.
Uygan, who has performed in Türkiye as well as Greece, Tunisia, Switzerland and Germany, brings traditional Anatolian rhythms to the stage with a contemporary interpretation.
With his masterful and refined rhythms, he gives the trio both roots and movement.
Between Sound and Silence
These three visionary artists;
While drawing strength from their own traditions, they share a common language:
Contemporary modal music.
This concert;
where cultures meet,
where traditions are reinterpreted,
It's a musical encounter that directly touches the soul.
At this special evening, taking place in the historic and atmospheric setting of the Maritime Museum, the music will not just be heard — it will be felt.
